Annual Address - Professor Mathew Trinca Talalin AM FAHA
27 August 2026
Volunteers and visitors were delighted to welcome Dr Talanin on Thursday when he gave the Heritage Centre's Annual Address. His talk was titled: Local History and National meaning: Australian history as a mosaic of our experience.
Mathew spoke about the ways in which we contribute to building a picture of the nation through our work in detailing the histories of our communities across the country.
Rather than a singular, overarching narrative that stands for national meaning, Mathew favours an approach to the past that emphasises pluralism and diversity of experiences of the people and places that they have made across the continent.
This approach connects the extraordinary histories of First Nations reaching back thousands of years to those of all who have come after and made Australia home.
We all enjoyed a light lunch after Mathew's talk.
