ANU archaeology students visit

13 March 2026

ANU archaeology lecturer Duncan Wright, and Uncle Wally Bell of the Buru Ngunawal Aboriginal corporation, brought a group of twenty archaeology students to the Hall Heritage Centre on 11 March to study stone artefact technology and the archaeological context of the Hall and Ginninderra Area.

They came from a visit to the ochre quarry, Gubur Dhaura, and had a special interest in the nearby sites on Ginninderra Creek that are part of the foyer display that was enhanced for the Palmerville exhibition. This was a fortunate benefit for their projects.

They also had an opportunity for a hands-on experience of the 'Stones that Speak' exhibition.

One of the students expressed an interest in volunteering at the Museum, and another was interested in endangered historic heritage. One student, who is a member of the Southwell family, had a natural affinity to the wider displays that were shown to the students by Peter Browning during the visit.
