Brass on the grass

Over two hundred people visited Hall on Sunday last to listen to 'brass on the grass'. After unpredictable weather during the week, with a share of high temperatures, high winds and rain, the afternoon was warm and windy, but dry, and conditions were perfect by the time the last note off Charles Anderson's march, 'ORB' faded away. ORB was preceded by an item from the other favourite part of the brass band repertoire - the hymn, 'Amazing Grace'.

Local Legend David Kilby again provided his inimitable services as MC and we enjoyed brackets from the Victoria Street Brass and the Canberra Brass - the former performing alongside the eponymous Hall main street. In between, an interval devoted to fundraising - a bucket collection, a raffle and a refreshment stall - raised just over $1,500 for the museum, an excellent result. Many thanks to all who came, and contributed!

Amongst the appreciative audience were many 'hardy perennials', young and old, who have been coming back year after year. It seems to have something to do with the special atmosphere of being outside, on the grass with big trees all around. It is a favourite gig with Canberra Brass as well; they approached the Museum this year to see if we might do a special 'back to normal' November concert, following cancellation in March, rather than wait for our regular date in 2021.

Major sponsors, Barnett Lilley and Associates, have been a wonderful partner in this event for more than a decade, and have already told us they are happy to keep on going. We are very grateful to them, and to the other Hall businesses who contributed prizes for the raffle - Hall Farm Supplies, The Shearing Shed Hair Salon, Endless Beauty, Daughters at Hall, Capital Wines, Jelly Bug Treasures, Hops and Vine and Kynefin Cafe. Thanks to your generosity the raffle raise almost $600 for the museum's funds.
