When Hall answered the Call!

Member for Fraser Dr Andrew Leigh officially opened the Hall Museum's latest exhibition on Sunday 11th April at 10.00 am. The Member for Fraser recounted the war experience of 'Mack' Southwell and congratulated the 'Friends' on capturing the local stories of the impact of the Great War.

This exhibition pays special attention to the men listed on the district's several Rolls of Honour, including the one on display in the Hall school. Also featured are stories from the Hall home front where families gathered together for mutual support in the absence of their menfolk. A re-creation of a 'Welcome Home' celebration that was held at wars' end in the local Kinlyside Hall is a highlight that captured the attention of Canberra time writer Ian Warden.

Each of the soldiers featuring in the exhibition has been researched by one of the Museum volunteers, a process that led to some interesting findings and connections. This background information has all been collated into folders so that those interested in a particular ANZAC will be able to sit down and dig a bit deeper.

Dr David Stephens reviewed the exhibition for Honest History, making interesting contrasts with with the exhibitions mounted by the major cultural institutions, including the Australian War Memorial

Entry to the Exhibition, which is open each weekend in April - is free - but donations are greatly appreciated.
