Despite the low temperature & gusty wind, hundreds of visitors attended the National Trust (ACT) Open Day at the Gungahlin Homestead in Crace on Saturday 11th April.

This event has traditionally signalled the beginning of celebrations for the ACT Heritage Festival and so it was again in 2026.

Hall Heritage Centre was well represented and many visitors stopped by our display to seek information, learn about our organisation and participate in our heritage-based quizzes.

Several unusual artefacts were displayed, encouraging onlookers to guess their name & use. No-one was able to guess all six items. The very old 'log splitter' contraption always stumps visitors.

In recognition of our new Palmerville exhibition we set up a 'Can you solve the Palmerville story?' board with dates, photographs & events. Participants had to match each date with an event & a photograph. When given some support, several keen mystery solvers did indeed solve the mystery.
