Museum Launch for Canberra Stories
21 June 2012
The Hall School Museum was the setting on 18 June for the Launch of 'Pages of Early Canberra History' a set of stories and images relating to Canberra's rural past, designed for ACT schools.
The stories, in two volumes, are the work of Elizabeth Burness, and the project was assisted by an ACT Heritage Grant. Elizabeth was for some time the 'honorary curator' of the Hall School Museum, before she became the custodian of the Tuggeranong Schoolhouse Museum in Chisholm. As a teacher and story teller, she left behind a find contribution to interpretation of the Hall museum collection.
The 'Stories' were launched by Linda Roberts from ACT Heritage, and the Chair of the ACT Heritage Council, Duncan Marshall, was amongst the guests. The occasion was given colour, noise and movement by attendance of children from the Preschool, suitable dressed for the occasion.
The publications will be available to every ACT school, and include extensive note for teachers. Elizabeth has kindly donated a set to the Hall School Museum, which has a small but growing 'resource centre'.
