"The Molonglo Camp secured its own school in February 1922 when Cecil Ivey opened the old camp hospital for classes with the nearby Dental clinic as a shelter shed. He condemned his residence in what had been the commandant's quarters, as a flimsy, jerry-built, weatherboard shell lined with cardboard, which leaked through windows, walls and ceilings and was like a refrigerator in winter because it had no fireplace. Both rent and electricity were extortionate.......As founding president of the Molonglo Progress Association, Ivey played the piano at social occasions, refereed football matches, and reported the camp news regularly in the Queanbeyan Age as 'Our Molonglo Correspondent' ".
