Kelly, Mr Victor

Kelly was the teacher at Gibraltar July 1916 - May 1918, when he enlisted in the AIF.

Queanbeyan Age, July 23 1918:

A farewell and presentation was tendered on 22 June, at the residence of Mr J. Rustin, Gibraltar, to Mr V.S. Kelly, school teacher at Gibraltar Provisional School, on the eve of his departure from the district, Mr Kelly having enlisted and was to go into camp on the 25th.
About 100 persons turned up to bid him farewell, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. MR T.M. Woods was Chairman, and on behalf of the children and the residents, Miss Kay Rustin and Miss Doris Woods presented the guest with a wrist watch, suitably inscribed.

Speeches were made by the chairman and parents in praise of the good work done my Mr Kelly since he has been a teacher at Gibraltar, also wishing him a safe return. Mr Kelly, who has made himself very popular since he has been in the district, in thanking the children and residents for their gifts said he was sorry to leave them, but thought his place was in the 'firing line'. Mr Kelly is the third our of four brothers to enlist. Songs and recitations were rendered by Miss A Sheedy, MR S Cleary and Mr J McMillan. Dancing was continued through the evening, Mr J Maloney making as efficient MC..........
