Good Hope in County Murray, lies south-west of Yass on the northern side of the Murrumbidgee River and south of the Yass River. The locality's pioneering squatter was Captain Archibald McCallum who claimed a large tract of land or 'run' in about 1844 and named it 'Good Hope' station. He died in 1867, and his son Argyle succeeded as the station's manager for the next 40 years, dying in 1912.
With the construction of the Burrinjuck Dam and subsequent flooding of the valley, creating the large lake, Good Hope changed dramatically from the productive farming land that was a feature of the area before 1913.
Good Hope opened as a Provisional school in 1872 and operated as such until 1880, when it was
upgraded to a Public School. In this capacity, with appropriate enrolments, the school continued until
December 1912 when it was forced to become a Half time school with Derringullen.
The Good Hope School closed in 1914 but operated as a subsidised school for 1915, then again from 1932-1933, when it closed permanently.
