Dr Roslyn Russell and her assistant Rachel Watson visited the Centre today to meet with Ken Heffernan, Curator of the Gillespie Collection, and others who have been involved in cataloguing it. Dr Russell lives in Canberra, and knew Lyall Gillespie, adding an interesting dimension to the task in front of her.

Dr Russell will be writing a report for the National Library's Community Heritage Grants Program, which is funding her investigation. Depending on her findings the Centre may become eligible for further grants to undertake conservation or digitisation work on the Collection.

Our volunteer member Margaret Morris has been cataloguing the large collection of books, while Phil Robson has been cataloguing the photographs. Ken Heffernan has used his professional skills as an archaeologist to identify and describe a very large collection of Aboriginal stone artefacts. Museum volunteers will be providing all the help we can to make sure that Dr Russell gets the fullest possible appreciation of the Gillespie Collection as a whole.
