Group visits prove popular
29 April 2016
Forty or so members of the Melba Mens Shed were the latest of a growing number of group visits when they arrived this morning to view the various exhibitions and the old school. Interestingly, the current President is Roger Amos, a former teacher at the Hall school, who came armed with photos of teachers and children from the eighties.
In there last few weeks there has been group visits from the Queanbeyan War Widows, Yass History Group, and Belconnen View Club, while groups from the Southwell Family Society, Gold Creek School and Queanbeyan Day Care Club are forthcoming.
Responses from such groups has been overwhelmingly positive, and it is evident that some of them are spreading the word. One recent visitor commented: "Just a short note to thank you all for an enjoyable morning tea on Tuesday 26th April, we had a great time looking around the Anzac and Ginninderra Exhibitions . The School house and trip down 'Memory Lane' brought back many childhood memories. You have all done an amazing job with the Museum".
Some visitors who have come before, tell us that the had no idea that there was so much more to see besides the original school. Many others comment very favourably on the high quality of the displays and the research work that lies behind them. While being on the group visit 'roster' is another commitment for busy volunteers, it is of course rewarding to have such positive feedback. The Centre keeps a record of each of the group visits and is always looking for ways of improving the experience for our visitors.
