Rediscovering Ginninderra:
Joseph Reich

Born: c. 1778

Little is known about Joseph Reich (sometimes spelled 'Rich'), who was one of the early convict labourers at Palmer's Ginninderra estate, listed in the 1828 census.

He was transported with a life sentence in 1820 on the Elizabeth. He had been an agricultural labourer at the time of conviction in North Wiltshire. He stood 5' 7½", which was quite tall for the convicts of those days.

Before working at Ginninderra, he was a 'Government Servant' assigned to Colonel O'Connor at Windsor.
