Thomas Hyland

Born: c. 1782; Died: 1848

Emancipated Irish convict, Thomas Hyland, arrived in Australia in 1812 aboard the Archduke Charles to serve out a seven-year sentence. In the 1828 census he is recorded as working as a shepherd for Palmer at Ginninderra.

Hyland was born c. 1782. He remained in the district throughout the 1830s and 1840s, working as a shepherd until his death in September 1848. Thomas Hyland is buried at St Johns, Reid.
