Rediscovering Ginninderra:
James Gledman
Born: 1780
In the 1823-1825 convict muster, James Gledman (listed as Joseph) was recorded as a servant to 'Mr Best of Parramatta'. By the 1828 census he appears as one of Palmer's convicts at Ginninderra, working as a labourer. His trade in the documentation was 'ploughman', which would have made him a handy addition to the skills mix of Palmerville estate.
Gledman had arrived in Australia aboard the Recovery in 1818 to serve out a 14-year sentence. He was a native of Warwickshire, born in 1780.
Nothing more that is certain is known about him.
